Recipe: Fig Compote

🍽 1 jar of fig compote
⏲25 minutes

Fig compote is really tasty and it could be consumed with a lot of different products. Our favorite ways are to eat fig compote on a cheese platter or in a grilled cheese sandwich, but the options are endless. The following recipe is a really tasty, sweet fig compote with apple. You can make a whole jar full of the compote at once.

Ingredients
120-130 grams of figs (3 fresh vigs)
90 grams of apple (about half an apple depending on the size)
100 grams of sugar
35 grams of hazelnut liqueur
35 grams of milk
20 grams of water
2,5 grams of biscuit seasoning

How to make it?
First, cut the apple and figs into pieces and weigh the other ingredients. Put a small pan on the stove, add the sugar, and put it on a low fire so the sugars can caramelize but won’t burn (if you wish to take a safer approach you can add 10 grams of water). The darker the caramel becomes the less sweet it’ll be, but be careful not to turn it bitter. When the sugars have caramelized to your liking you can add the milk and stir, fair warning it will cause quite the effect but if you keep stirring and maybe put on an oven glove if you have sensitive hands it will be fine. When the mix becomes even again you can repeat the same process with the water, this time the reaction should be less extreme as the mix has a lower temperature than before.

Time to add the apple chunks and biscuit spices to the mix. Cook for about 5 minutes before adding the figs. When the figs are in the pan, try not to stir the pan too much as the figs could get smashed. After approximately another 5 minutes (depending on the ripeness of your figs, if they’re very ripe I’d advise shortening that time) quench the mix with the liqueur so that just a wisp of the alcohol might remain in the compote to carry its taste. Now all you got left to do is let it cool down and then enjoy it in whatever way you like!
