When we are on vacation, our love for exploration extends beyond landscapes and onto the world of food and drinks. Our visit to La Palma, Canary Islands, unfolded a variety of local flavours and culinary treasures that we’re excited to share. Here is our local food guide on our foodie’s exploration of La Palma, complete with restaurant recommendations.

Gofio
Local Delicacies

Polvito Uruguayo: Indulge your sweet tooth with this heavenly dessert—Polvito Uruguayo. This is a delightful blend of caramel, cream, and cookies. Its creamy texture is a testament to the island’s culinary prowess.

Papas Arrugadas: A staple on every local menu. These salt-coated potatoes, known as Papas Arrugadas, offer a savory taste of La Palma’s culinary heritage.

Gofio: A versatile floury dish made from (a variety of) grains, Gofio is a culinary cornerstone in the Canary Islands, reflecting the region’s rich culinary traditions.

Barraquito
Local drinks

Barraquito: Our favorite beverage, the Barraquito, is a multi-layered coffee. Combining condensed milk, frothy milk, and a touch of liqueur (Licor 43 or its nonalcoholic counterpart). Usually topped with lemon peel and cinnamon.

Restaurants

Heladeria El Drago: For ice cream crafted with care, Heladeria El Drago in Los Llanos is a must-visit. The owner’s warmth and the unique Avocado ice cream make this spot a standout.

Los Argentinos de Los Llanos de Aridane: Elevating our dining experience, Los Argentinos impressed us with flavorful meat dishes. The small grill at each table added an interactive touch. A top recommendation!

Coffee

Antojito’s (Los Llanos): Discover the charm of Antojito’s, a small coffee cafe with a delightful terrace, perfect for sipping a cup of excellence.

El Cafe de Don Manuel (Santa Cruz): Historic ambiance meets exceptional coffee at El Cafe de Don Manuel in Santa Cruz, offering hot drinks and bakery items.

To summarize this food guide shows you which local dishes and drinks are a must-try and where we recommend eating at La Palma. Buen provecho!
