Ingredients

– 500 grams of potatoes
– 45 grams of butter
– 15 milliliters of milk

How to make it?

Put a cooking pan with some salt and water on the stove. Peel the skin of the potatoes and cut them into pieces, the size will matter for how long you have to cook them. Add the potatoes to the boiling water and cook them for approximately 15 minutes (10 to 20 depending on the size of the chunks). You can check with a fork whether the potatoes are done. If you are able to prick into the potato easily they are done and you can drain the water from the pan.

Then it’s time to mash the potatoes, we have a nice tool in our kitchen for this; a masher. However, you could also use a fork if you’re out of options. When mashing the potatoes you’re going to want to keep the heat in the pan without burning it. So either switch the heat source on/off or take your pan on and off the heat source. It’s important to keep the potatoes warm so as to get a nice dry texture and to melt and absorb the butter. Mash the potatoes for a few minutes, then add the butter and continue the process. If the butter is incorporated you can add the milk and repeat the same action. The mashed potatoes are done, you can add some herbs according to taste. We recommend nutmeg and thyme for example. This time we served the mashed potatoes with some parsnip out of the oven and some parsley on top.
