Recipe: Dutch Gingerbread buttons (Kruidnoten in Dutch)

Every year in November and December Saint Nicholas comes to Holland and gives presents to the children. This is a Dutch tradition, at that time we eat some snacks like “speculaas” (spiced biscuits) and “kruidnoten” the best translation we’ve found is Gingerbread buttons (small spiced cookies). When Kim was little she always made kruidnoten, this is a family tradition that is still going strong. We loved making these small cookies since it contains our favorite spice mix (a biscuit seasoning of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, etc.) and it’s easy to bake. We like to share our recipe with you guys!

šŸ½ about 60 pieces
ā² make time: 15 minutes
ā³ bake time: 15-20 minutes

Ingredients
250 grams of flour
8 grams of baking powder
120 grams of brown caster sugar
25 grams of oat milk (you can use any type of milk that you like)
125 grams of butter
2 grams of biscuit seasoning
0,3 grams of salt

How to make it?
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Put all the ingredients except for the milk in a bowl and knead the dough with your hands. Then add the milk to the mixture and make a round ball of the dough. When the ball of dough is finished you can make small rounds of dough and place them on a baking tray. Bake them for about 15-20 minutes. When the kruidnoten cool down they’ll become crispier. Let them cool down for about 10-20 minutes and enjoy these Dutch gingerbread buttons!

We made another gingerbread recipe, namely speculaas. Be sure to check this out.
